Country Meets the Beach

What do you do when you move from the city with a cute house decorated with antiques, quilts, and country decor and move to the beach?

I have spent years collecting things and creating my style. I can't just up and change everything to the "beach" look.

I stopped at an awesome store today called Kathleen's Kottage. They have an advertisement in our local paper that they have finger starfish for $1.00. That is a bargain and I wanted lots of them to do some decorating so I took a trip over there today. I am in love with her store!

I took this picture below just for The Nester. Look at all those windows, doors, and shutters, girl! I thought of you when I saw them and grabbed my camera and took this picture just for you. :0)

Anyway, back to the Country Meets the Beach... I have placed starfish around my home just to get a feel for it. I am going to somehow incorporate country with beach. I'll share more in future posts of how that is coming along.

I even broke down and bought this sign for the porch. I am going to change the ribbon to something different, maybe wire, but I had to get it because the arrow is pointing the right direction to the beach for us!

What's Your Decorating Personality?

There's a fun quiz at Better Homes and Gardens right now. CLICK HERE to find out what your decorating personality is. I thought for sure I'd stump this quiz program and it would lock up! (Ha Ha)

I love so many styles and seem to mix and match styles so I wasn't sure WHAT my score would be. Here's how it turned out: 30% Formal, 30% French Country, and 40% Vintage. Sounds about right. A few of the questions were tough because I could have chosen 2 of the answers. But all in all I think that sums up my Decorating Personality.

Color A Room

I am very busy this week with school activities, baking, working a booth today at the Fall Festival at my son's school. I am baking cupcakes right now for tomorrow at my daughter's school, -the owl cupcakes from my very first blog post.

I was going to share an article at Better Homes and Garden's website about French Country decorating, but then I saw this... Color a Room.

Give it a try. If you don't have a username and password with BHG, it's quick and easy to sign up for one and then you can sign in and give Color a Room a try. You can choose colors and patterns for walls and fabrics. You can save your creations, email them to a friend, and also print them out.
